Johnny

Growing up in Cabrini Green, Johnny witnessed the shooting deaths of friends. He attended Jenner school, but never finished high school. Despite debilitating asthma, Johnny was making a go of it in Mississippi. It was his wife’s death that was the catalyst towards homelessness. Moving back to Chicago, Johnny and his young son, Johnny Jr., slept at a cousin’s house. But the rules of Section 8 vouchers eventually forced them out and their choices for sleeping became the “L” or short term stays with friends. That is until they moved into a one-bedroom apartment in Cressey House at ReVive. Today, Johnny Jr is going to school and actively participating in ReVive’s Engagement Center Activities.
