Cressey House

Opened in 1998, Cressey House is a 28-apartment transitional housing program for homeless individuals and single parents in recovery. Cressey is among only a handful of supportive housing programs in the Midwest that permit homeless men and women in recovery to live with their children. In addition to being chronically homeless and recovering from addiction, about half of Cressey’s residents have been incarcerated, generally for drug-related offenses. Cressey residents have access to a wealth of services at Cathedral Shelter to help them achieve self-sufficiency, such as outpatient addiction recovery services and Work Transitions services. Cressey’s safe, drug-free environment, coupled with the many supportive services Cathedral Shelter offers, has produced impressive results: 90% of Cressey residents remained drug-free in 2006.
