Second Chance Thrift Reemerges from Fire
February 17, 2009
After closing its doors for a little over a month, Second Chance Thrift is now reopened! The store closed in mid-January due to fire and water damages in its 1668 West Ogden Avenue building. Fortunately, its interior has been restored to the beautiful quality originally seen following its 2008 renovation. Few merchandise items in the store were damaged as a result of the fire.
“We’re glad that we can go back to offering high-quality items at discount prices during a time when people struggling with the economy need them most,” says Store Manager Kevin Longstreth.
Many items donated to Second Chance Thrift come from the wealthiest Episcopal parishes in Chicago. Local antique dealers in Chicago often purchase items at Second Chance to resell in their boutiques. Sales from the thrift store help fund Cathedral Shelter’s programs and services for individuals and families struggling with poverty and addiction.
