2007 Phone-a-thon a Success
October 9, 2007
On September 25-27, 2007, twenty-six volunteers lit up the switchboard calling friends of Cathedral Shelter. The volunteers consisted of board members, clients, and off-duty staff. After a brief training and a slice of pizza, the volunteers set about calling 976 households which have supported Cathedral Shelter financially in the past.
Our callers were – and a special thanks goes to them for volunteering their time, talents, and energy – Board Members Glen Tracy, Rev. Jack Seymour, Rev. Bernie Brown, Karen Ferrantella, and Sally Graver; Higgins House residents Terry, Mark, Edward, Al, Sidney, Jace, Thomas, John, Ted, Tom, and Pierce; Cressey House residents Betty and Michelle; and staff member volunteers Nancy Pendergrass, Augustine Ntiamoah, Robert Barnes, Tanya Kyles, Li Drummond, Lynn Shelton, Rev. Glenn Chalmers, and Kevin McCullough.
The goal of the phone-a-thon was to raise $40,000 in unrestricted funds to support the programs and services offered by Cathedral Shelter. Over the three days we received pledges and donations totalling $10,750. Letters were sent to pledgers with a return envelope.
As is often the case, we were able to directly connect with only about 10% of those we tried to reach. For those we were unable to reach directly, we left messages when possible. We have followed the message with a letter requesting support. If 80% of those who fall into this group respond with the same gift as last year, we will reach our goal.
Please help us continue to serve those who need it most. Respond generously when you receive your letter. For all of the ways you may contribute financially, please see the Donate Now page of the website.
