Cathedral Shelter of Chicago Senior Staff
Rev. John (Jack) D. Seymour, joined Cathedral Shelter of Chicago as its Executive Director in January 2010. Having been ordained to the vocational diaconate in 1994, he has served in both the Diocese of Springfield and the Diocese of Chicago. Jack is presently assigned to the congregation of St. Paul and the Redeemer in Chicago, IL (Hyde Park). He also serves the Diocese of Chicago as Director of the Deacons’ School for Ministry and Formation.
Jack’s secular professional distinctions include Director of the Illinois Department of Financial Institutions, Illinois Commissioner of Savings and Residential Finance, Executive Director of the Attainable Housing Alliance and Vice President and Chief Operating Officer for First Bank of the Americas.
On a national level, Jack has served as President of the American Council of State Savings Supervisors, the American Association of Residential Mortgage Regulators and as a member of the Federal Financial Institutions Examination Council. He has published several articles on financial services in Illinois.
He was a founder of First Bank of the Americas, SSB, a community development bank serving the Hispanic community on the southwest side of Chicago. He served as Treasurer of the bank, Chief Operating Officer as well as a member of First Bank’s Board of Directors until its successful sale. During his tenure as Treasurer of First Bank of the Americas he led the institution’s strategic planning process that resulted in the bank growing from $2.5 million in assets to over $86 million in assets.
In the corporate finance arena, Jack has coordinated the strategic planning activities of multiple individual financial institutions facing the need to restructure their operations in order to be successful in changing markets.
In the not for profit sector, Jack participated in and lead strategic planning processes for Chicago Theological Seminary, The Cathedral Shelter of Chicago and The Attainable Housing Alliance of Illinois along with other not for profit corporations.
Jack is a graduate student completing his Masters of Divinity Degree at Chicago Theological Seminary. He is also a student at The Center for Religion and Psychotherapy of Chicago where he is enrolled in their Advanced Certificate Program for Pastoral Care.

Kevin McCullough, Director of Operations, has over 22 years experience in non-profit management and development. He has worked at regional and national agencies that serve at-risk elderly and agencies that provide residential and community-based services for the HIV/AIDS, substance abuse recovery, and homeless populations. Kevin holds a bachelor’s degree in sociology from Radford University.

Higgins House Manager Chester Miles, CADC, MISA, NCRP, has nearly 20 years experience in the substance abuse recovery field. He has previously served as the agency’s Outpatient Counselor and Unit Manager. Additionally he worked at the Salvation Army and Loretto Hospital. Chester attended Malcolm X College, Harold Washington College, and Wright College.

Managing Cathedral Shelter of Chicago’s supportive housing program, Cressey House, is Janette Christophe. She holds a Bachelor of Science in Psychology from the University of Illinois Chicago. Janette previously worked with supportive housing programs at Heartland Human Care Services, Lakefront SRO, and Thresholds.

Cynthia Jones, Human Resources Officer, has more than 25 years experience as a human resources professional, including 13 years as the Regional Employment Manager for AT&T and Lucent Technologies, where she was responsible for a 13-state region. She is a member of the Society of Human Resource Managers.

Nancy Pendergrass, Controller, has over 20 years experience as a business, information technology, and financial analyst. She holds a Master of Business Administration from DePaul University and a Bachelor of Science degree from Northwestern University. She joined Cathedral Shelter of Chicago’s staff in 2006.
